Single Family · Built 1907 · Historic
This circa 1907 stucco home is a Craftsman-style, two-story bungalow with strong Frank Lloyd Wright design influences. These consist of strong horizontal lines created through the use of extensive woodwork on the first floor. Refinished, warm, deep-toned oak wood enriches the first floors, and southern pine wood is used upstairs for trim and doors. The kitchen was been updated twenty years ago, from a stale 1950s re-muddle into a classic bungalow interpretation, using glass doors on most of the upper cabinets, and oak drawers and cabinet doors on the lower cabinets. Much of the cabinet components are salvaged science department cabinets removed from one of the Sacred Heart Academy schools, in Chicago, Illinois, decades ago. (link: https://www.shschicago.org/sacred-heart-schools) Kitchen and breakfast room are trimmed with oak, along with maple hardwood flooring in the kitchen, and oak hardwood flooring in the breakfast room. The living room has a gas-log fireplace and cabinets on both sides, joined by a wide mantle shelf. Original cabinet doors are missing. A previous owner, who grew up in the home claims that the cabinets once had leaded glass doors. (NOTE: Fireplace is not vented properly to handle wood fires) (NOTE: The home is reputed to have once been a vacation home for a Chicago family, and many parties hosted within its walls.) In 1993, a two story addition was added onto the north side of the house, adding a double family room downstairs, with a wood-burning fireplace, and two bedrooms (master bedroom and additional bedroom) and a full bath in the master suite, upstairs, bringing the bedroom total to five. All trim used in the addition was produced by the same cabinet maker who created the kitchen cabinets. The original, 1907 trim was closely matched, resulting in uninterrupted woodwork styling between the two parts of the home. The exterior details match the original structure closely. The original basement has 6’ 7” ceilings and presently unfinished. The addition has a gravel floor crawl space. The house has two heating plants. A gas boiler for the 1907 section and a gas forced air furnace for the addition. The house is on an acre of land on a corner lot. A small barn was added to host a family horse. The detached garage was converted from a three-car garage into a two-car, plus workshop, layout when the driveway was relocated to the south side of the structure.
