Apartment · Built 1959
Up for rent is my apartment located in Brightwood Park. Quick stats: Second Level, ~420+ sq ft, $1,034/mo inclusive of heating, hot water and water, newly refinished hardwood floors, brand new kitchen and appliances, a lot of light, Huge walk-in closet, ample street parking (with no permit), washer/dryer in building, access to everything you need and a great community. Also, I assure you that all my walls are white and not yellow. Off the bat, you'll note that there isn't much metro access (squeezed between Ft. Totten and Georgia Ave, 30 minute walk or a quick bus ride when timed), but there is a lot of bus connectivity. This is the only "downside." However, none of this means anything to me because I hate public transportation and regularly commute via bicycle to bars/hanging out in DC and even to work in Alexandria, VA (takes an hour via trails). I park my car on the street and always have space in front of my apartment. Metro be damned, you're an expensive headache anyways (not kidding). May be a parking space in rear for an additional charge.... Building is rent controlled. Yes, that is not a typo. Heating and water is included, and you have to pay for gas, electricity and internet. This apartment is *warm* in the winter! I'm only moving because I'm leaving the area. Want to eat? Sure you do. There is a Walmart nearby, a Yes! Organic and a Safeway. Also a Popeyes, which has proven critical during high-stress work days. Columbia Heights is close. Beer can be bought in our bodegas and there is a decent beer/wine store nearby too. All within a 5-15 minute bike ride away. There are even a lot of local shopping marts around Kennedy Street if you want something within walking distance, and a new farmer's market (you're also close to the Upshur farmer's market) AND a mobile market. Finally, I know what you might be asking: what the hell is Brightwood Park? Well, for those who don't know, let me tell you that Kennedy Street is amazing. There are some great local eats (Adrienne's Carribean Carry Out, Taqueria Distrito Federal, and some great Ethiopian places as well), an active community space (Culture Coffee), and overall some kind and friendly neighbors who are active participants in the community. If you've got a significant other you can be so cute and just bike up to Takoma Park for brunch. I've never felt as much as a part of a community as I've had on Kennedy Street - and I've lived in Shaw, Capitol Hill and 16th St Heights. I'd definitely stay here if I could. I'd say this apartment is perfect for someone who errs slightly on the quiet side and who doesn't mind commuting around on bicycle/car. That being said, DC Reynolds, Red Derby and other bars in the area (i.e. Petworth Citizen & Reading Room) are my traditional watering holes (I have a lot of friends who live up here, and frankly, the less of the drunk MD/VA crowd I see the better I feel). I'll also say that my legs have never been more badass and I love being 15 minutes from Rock Creek Park. Holler at me! Happy to answer any questions. Please include a contact phone number where you can be reached.. No open house - let's just set up a time and you can just swing on by. And.BTW...this is a no pet building, and you must have current and verifiable rental history - 1-Year Lease requirement. Owner pay water, sewer, heat, hot water, trash. Tennant pays cooking gas and electric light
