Ask for video tour + update list! - One of my true joys as a realtor is serving in some small way to help people accomplish their dreams. Over the years, one of the consistent themes among my buyer clients is finding a small town vibe with accessibility to the City for work and culture. A slower pace, room to spread out, and a community feel where neighbors look out for each other. Whenever this request comes up, I quickly suggest checking out Maywood Park. Maywood Park is a hidden gem – a literal city within a city and one of our truest Oregon treasures. Many years ago, this tiny community was built by the sheer will and might of the homeowners as they fought the city and ODOT to protect a way of life. Maywood Park is a mere total of 0.17 square miles and is not actually part of Portland. In fact, it’s a completely independent town, with its own mayor, government, and municipal laws. The city consists of about 300 homes and is reminiscent of times past: quiet streets with neighbors walking their dogs, homeowners sharing in small talk, and good old neighborly relations where you know each other’s names and the names of their beloved pets. At times it feels a bit like an episode of the Andy Griffith show. Now that you have walked down memory lane for a bit, let me introduce you to this pristine 1941 Cape Cod home. Like many Maywood Park residents, these owners were already drawn to the community via family ties. When it was time to purchase their first home, they chose to move to the familiar neighborhood of her grandparents. The first thing you notice about Maywood homes is their oversized lots and mature landscaping and this home does not disappoint in that regard. Replete with lush green grass, a big patio off the formal dining room, and a custom made chicken coop nestled behind the hydrangeas, this yard is made for long summer days. Like having your own private park in your backyard! During their time as stewards, these owners lovingly restored and updated this home while highlighting the vintage charm. The main floor of the home has the original white oak floors, updated wood-burning fireplace, kitchen with built-ins, and an eating nook that overlooks the backyard. You will also find a spacious formal dining with french door access to the patio, perfect for meals al fresco. The main floor has a chicly updated bath and two bedrooms. The upper floor houses a light and bright office area with access to another large bedroom. The basement is a true dream with a huge updated bath, clean and tastefully custom-designed laundry area, and a family room with wet bar and craft/bar/eating island and a second fireplace. Beyond that, you will also find yet another bedroom and a huge clean storage area for all the extra treasures. The one car attached garage (additional storage above garage) also gives access to the kitchen and the backyard. Be sure to check out the list of updates as this post is already quite lengthy.
